Have you run a compression check?
The book says that the cylinder compression should be from 115psi to 170psi. Remember to hold the throttle open while you are cranking the engine. This will usually take two people unless you have one of those neat screw in type compression testers.
Pull the head and cylinder off and check the ring end gap.
The standard gap is .006 to .014” Maximum gap allowed is .0236”
Please note that there is a difference between the top and bottom rings. Don’t get them mixed up.
