tomos spark gap

My 2001 Tomos Targa LX came with a booklet stating spark gap at .5 mm – but a Tomos website service and repair manual for that bike says .8mm. I had been running .8 on my trip due to my weak eyes misreading the fine print, and had no problems; but last October I read the .5 correctly and changed the gap, and have had trouble misfiring ever since. I changed back to .8 yesterday and had great improvement.
