Yes, you can check your engine serial number to see what you really have. The serial numbers for the various years is in the Wiki.

You can also check your cylinder – to see what numbers are cast into it. Look at the base of the cylinder, on both sides. The cast-in number can tell you if you have a PA50I or PA50II cylinder.

Otherwise, clean out your muffler – see the Wiki.
