motobecane 1980 clutch

it started with a clicking noise, then it just became a heavy bicycle.

i can’t get the engine to engage; they clutch is broken i think. is there any way i can just permanently engage it? i was trying to slide it off the pedal shaft, but couldn’t get the pedal off.

if someone can help me get started, or let me know what to do. i’d be very greatful.
