I know it is not a pugged carburetor causing the engine to die when I apply the rear brakes. I have completely diassebled and cleaned in an Ulrra-Sonic machine three seperate times. The carburetor is clean. I think you are on the right track saying the variator is not disengaging as it should, causing the engine to stall.
