On the concept of O-rings: Ohhhhhhhhhh. (That was a horrible pun. Forgive me. I couldn’t restrain myself.)
Yay! Pictures!
Okay, here’s the O-ring in the top of my carb:

I wrote down that it had an OD of 1 1/16 and an ID of 15/16 (but was still somehow 1/16th thick…) just in case anyone else is interested but is not good enough friends with their carb to take it shopping. (No guarantees that that’s for sure the right size though.) I haven’t tried it yet, but it seems like it would work. The only thing I’m concerned about is that one of the screw holes in the top of my carb is about half-stripped. The added thickness of the ring makes me less sure that I’ve got it tightened down properly and less sure that the one screw has enough material to hold on to.
I tried to put another O-ring in the intake side of the carb.

Unfortunately, it was about half a hair too fat to get the carb pushed back far enough on the intake to get it twisted back on right. I think I might have been using 3/32 inch thick ones though, so that extra 1/32 of an inch might be the problem.
So my new plan (other than trying to find the thinner O-ring) is to cut down the rubber washer I bought.

That’s the rubber washer (black) with the gasket I made out of gasket material (grey). The black one has too small of an ID to work, but perhaps I can cut it out to make it fit. Well, I can try anyway.
Okay… so, comments anyone?
