So if you’re running a bing, and tuning your setup, you’re opening the carb top a lot, am I right? You’re changing the needle setting, running it, changing the needle setting again, etc. Anyway, this wears out the gasket at the top of the carb pretty quickly, and then you have an air leak there, and you have to buy an expensive gasket to fix it.
Fuck that. I went to the hardware store and picked up a 1/16” thick O-ring that fit nicely in the carb top, and switched it out for the factory gasket. It works like a charm. So screw buying new gaskets, just go to the hardware store and pick up a $0.34 O-ring.
I do realize it’s possible that the rubber will dissolve with exposure to gasoline, but it’s in the top of the carb, and that doesn’t get a lot of fuel flow going through there, so I’m not worried about it. I also used an O-ring to seal my connection from my carb to the intake, and I haven’t had trouble with that, so I’m thinking it should be fine.
