ok, I tapped it down. I’m pretty sure that the tapping I (which I did carefully and from both sides) did not cause the shaft to “bind” with respect to anything. And, yet, I must say that it feels identical to the way it did when I made my original post – too stiff. How hard is it supposed to be to turn the shaft, say, using one hand and gripping the fins on the stator plate housing/cover? In my case it is not as though you can just lightly turn the fins…you have to put some muscle into it. Is this right? The friction roller is quite a bit easier to turn (separately from the shaft) – that can be done with just a few fingers and firm pressure.
So, my remaining doubt -.the shaft seems too stiff. For example, after installing the crank arm and piston, I can’t make the shaft rotate by pushing or pulling up or down on the crank arm…there’s just not enough leverage. I HAVE to do it from the clutch side by gripping the fins and putting some muscle into it.
