Well, I guess you’ll have to support the crankshaft on the crank-weight side and tap the bearing onto the shaft a little farther. I hate to tell you to do this because it is definitely not the correct way, and I’d rather find out why the bearing and plate don’t go any farther.
The crankshaft will move if not supported enough and it will either bind the main crankcase bearing itself, or the end of the crank-pin will touch the inside of the crankcase cover. As you go along tapping the bearing on, keep turning the crankshaft to check that it remains free. Tap the crankshaft the opposite way that you’re tapping the bearing also, sort of back and forth, and keep checking for a free crankshaft. Install the three stator plate bolts and use them only to guide the plate into position. Don’t pull the plate with them because they will definitely bow the plate, being as they are towards the outside of the plate and not near the center where the tight bearing is.
