i’m close, but not there yet. I bought the washers, cut a piece of pipe, and began cranking. From the attached picture you can see I’m only about 1/4 inch from the endpoint. BUT, I can’t get the stator plate and bear to go down the shaft any further using the method you suggested. This is because there is so much resistance that when I’m cranking the nut to compress the washers against the pipe, I’m stripping the threads on the crank shaft…not good. I think it’s still usable, but I don’t want to risk stripping it anymore.
FYI, I am still able to pop off the stator plate easily and see that the bearing underneath spins freely. Then I just put the stator plate back on and it pops over the bearing fairly easily….but again I need to close that gap.
What am I to do now?
Also, what exactly did you mean by saying I would “bind” the crankshaft forcing the bearing down with blows? What would it “bind” against?
