so my new (1978, but new to me) puch is still giving me problems.
earlier this week i attempted to clean the carb, but i fear i may have done more harm than good.
now (several days later) makes high pitch (and loud) cracking/popping noise when throttle is open – sounds like it’s coming from carb. – what is causing that? how do i fix it?
also, she seems to just stall out (or, as i prefer to say, ‘fart out’) randomly, and often won’t start back up or run for several hours thereafter. any ideas?
also, joint where air filter connects to carburetor is cracked and shredded by screw and loose – when i put on side-cover the screw holds the air filter securely and tightens the filter-carb connection, but could air be leaking in there and causing trouble?
she was idling very high, but not always, off and on – high – low. when stopped the moped was really tugging underneath me – and didn’t seem to be idle screw and throttle adjustments (i tried them over and over)... so a motorcycle savvy friend of mine checked it out and pointed to a big kink in the throttle cable. he and i experimented with wiggling throttle cable while idling and he ‘diagnosed’ that the cable was catching on the inside of the kinked casing. does that make sense? if so – throttle cable is an easy replacement.
i’d appreciate any help – it’s beautiful weather and i’d like to get her up and running!
