1.Put your hammer in another room.
2.The stator plate on your model Solex usually is able to be removed by hand without the puller. So remove the stator plate just remembering that it is relatively fragile. Always leave the coils bolted to the stator plate because they help support the plate. In fact, the special puller actually pulls on the coils, not the plate. Check out the photos on this page:
http://bernique.free.fr/vsx25/6203_3.html#6202 . Of course I recommend using the special tools whenever possible, and there are several things that this guy does that make me cringe, but you can see how he uses a standard puller to remove the stator. Next use your bearing puller to remove the stator bearing. Install the bearing into the stator plate. A very slight cleaning-up of the bearing seat in the plate may be necessary, as well as a very slight tapping to fully seat the bearing in the plate. (Remember -Do not put the bearing on the shaft and then install the plate over it.) With the bearing fully inside the plate, push it by hand onto the crankshaft as far as you can. The idea that you must remember here is that you must draw the crankshaft and plate together. You cannot hit/tap/push/pound/etc the plate onto the shaft no matter what. Since you don’t have the special tool, you will have to improvise. Measure the distance from the stator plate to the middle of the threads on the end of the crankshaft. Cut a piece of sturdy pipe this length. The inside diameter of the pipe should fit loosely over the crankshaft and the outside diameter must fit within the circular opening of the points base. Place the pipe over the crankshaft and up against the stator plate. Place a washer or two over the top of the pipe and then thread the rotor (flywheel) nut onto the crankshaft. By tightening the nut, you will push down the plate while pulling the crankshaft towards you. You can probably get a few turns of the nut, then you will run out of threads. Remove the nut, add some more washers and tighten the nut again, pushing the plate farther and farther onto the crankshaft, towards the drive-roller assembly. When possible, install the M6×45 bolt that secures the stator plate from the cylinder side. Don’t install the other two M6×45 bolts yet. Do not tighten the one M6×45 bolt; just use it to guide the stator plate into position while you are pushing it onto the crankshaft. DO NOT use the three M6×45 stator plate bolts to draw the plate towards the crankcase…the plate will bend and bind the crankshaft. Keep repeating the procedure of tightening the nut until you run out of threads and installing more and more washers until the plate is in position. When the stator plate has reached the drive-roller assembly and is in position, then install the other two M6×45 stator plate bolts and fully tighten all three. As with most bolts on the Solex, do not overtighten them. The material of which the motor parts are fabricated is relatively soft, and threads are easily stripped/damaged. Check to make sure that the crankshaft turns freely. Install the crankcase side cover and gasket and make sure that the crank-pin and nut don’t touch the inside of the cover.
