ok, I will see if I can remove it. Of course, I don’t have the special tool for reassembly. I do have a bearing puller, which is what I used to remove the bearing in the first place. I don’t know if that is going to work well now for removing the stator plate though. The stator plate just kind of popped off when I was disassembling the clutch the first time, but I have a feeling it is not going to be so easy now. Assuming the engine isn’t ruined and I’m able to remove the stator plate and the bearing, is there any other way to get the bearing on without that tool? I had thought of using the bearing puller from the other side of the engine and maybe that would work.
I don’t think the crankshaft has moved over and hit the crankcase side cover. If you mean the side cover on the piston side of the case…that was not present when I was doing the banging. The piston and crank arm were removed too. What I did is set the engine on the table on it’s side (the piston side) and there is a small hole in the table so that the crank arm pin can go in the hole and the engine sits flat on the table. Then I put the stator plate on and it seemed to go over the bearing fine. I then hit the stator plate as described and I figured it couldn’t really push the bearing too far because once the stator plate reaches the clutch housing it can’t go any further. I know that wasn’t the right way to do it, so I guess I’ll just have to see what kind of damage may have been done.
