Some Puch’s go for around $9,000.00 in Japan – to collectors. According to Myron, they keep them in sealed, humidity controlled display boxes in their houses. If you don’t want to sell, you might want to raise the price a little ;)

We all know you can’t compare Benji’s humor to mint Magnum Ltd. Put that shit back in the glass PT, crushed red velvet and all. Chances are, some rich dude will buy it, and be the last person on earth to deserve it. Like a blind guy winning the lottery, whatever that means.

I could give a fuck less about a Limited. Who cares if some rich dude buys it? Why is everyone here so self righteous? It’s a moped. Plus anyone paying that much would surely take care of their investment… Get over it.

Plus it would be rad for 77 to sell it for that much. They got mouths to feed and kids to breed.

Yeah, that a bit of price gouging IMO…not very supportive of a moped community. I like 1977, but there prices on mopeds seem off the wall at best.

I got kids and mouths to feed, but I work with my fellow man to make ends meet, not against.

OK I got one for sale at 7,500 dollars . The way I feel is whatever the number is that you would sell it for that is what it is worth to you . If somone offered me 7500 than they can have it . Maybe they dont want to sell it but for 7800 Dan will let it go

Sorry if I pissed anyone off, but like many have already mentioned, 77’ has always tagged all vintage and custom at double what we the moped people would sell them to each other for. Just a matter of business I guess. Someone needs to build a boat and sale over to Italy and straight smuggle mopeds over.

they rebuild, modify, and put hours and most likely days into the bikes they sell from their site, so when you think about the price, it’s not just the parts or the bike itself, it’s the dedication that racks the bill up.. nike, just do it

Spend 5 fucking minutes thinking about what goes into one of these custom builds and you’ll realize that 77’s bikes are a fucking steal. This isn’t bolting a polini and a pipe on.

its not a fucking custom bike, its was in mint condition when they got it for 500 bucks, telling the guy they were going to put it in a museum. all they did was put a few hundred miles on it and raise the price 15 times what they conned the guy into selling it them for. i mean, look at their site, 1200 for a basic stock puch. thats bs. and that general? who in the fuck do they think they are? these guys are taking advantage of the fact that mopeds are a huge fucking current trend and leeching off kids with trust funds. what about all the people that matter in actual moped army, not just the fucking urban outfitters/american apparel pbr drinking pathetic art school kids. i mean, cool to them for ripping off a bunch of dumb ass hipsters and making some dough off it… but not cool otherwise. you are ripping off the people you are supposedly trying to help. 77 is like the walmart of the moped industry. way to go.

Baglady,

First off, we spent close to $2000 on that limited. We put 0 miles on it. It has been kept in museum conditions since we got it. Taking advantage of mopeds being a trend is a fucking joke. We have been doing this since before they were popular at all. We put the bike up there basically to let people see it. We aren’t actually looking to sell. But, if it did sell for $7800, I wouldn’t complain.

We never referred to it as a custom bike. Yes, though, our custom bikes are expensive, and they are worth it. 77 is the farthest thing from Walmart there is. Walmart tells you that you are getting the cheapest prices, and systematically destroys community in the process. We invest in giving mopeders jobs, and places to meet in common. You really sound ignorant when you run your mouth about things you have no clue about.

The fact that you are hanging up your “fixie” to play with a maxi really says just how closely you are tracking trends.

Dan

A custom moped done right takes a crazy amout of time to finish it . What is time worth . Then all the new parts that go on it . I dont think they are crazy in the prices of the custom peds. I dont think they are really trying to sell that LTD just like Benji is selling a big tomato. These are the guys that started the MA site that helps eveybody out .

WOW.

If there even is one, treats is the walmart of mopeds, am I the only one with the balls to say it.

I can’t believe ur so ignorant.

But who cares everyone buys from walmart anyways, in fact treats isn’t walmart cuz ppl hate walmart but settle with it. treats is more like target, its the same as walmart but “cool”.

Actually I’m wrong treats isn’t target cuz all my friends work at treats and they wouldn’t work for target. all my friends also work for 1977, wow what a coincidence.

Hey everyone maybe the moped stores are not out to get you maybe they are just a bunch of rad as moped kids trying too make a living doing what they do best, maybe they made a commitment to serve this community the best they can for the the rest of their lives or until all u trendy little bitches quit buying g shit.

I’m tired of hearing u little emo pussy bitches whine on the interweb all day about how moped and part prices are too high… well if you want to go back to the stone ages of mopeds and order strait from france and italy be my guest, then tell me how much parts cost.

O and if you think u can grab a container of minty mopeds and bring em over here then sell em for $300 a pop and not lose tonnes of $$$ do it and STFU.

Pssst why don’t you go back to stock and enjoy the ride like everyone else did b4 the mopeds shops where around.

I don’t get where you come off telling the core ppl in the moped community how to run a moped shop. get off the internet stop complaining get out and ride.

puke!

It saddens me to watch Dan and Pat and Elliot forced into defending themselves on here. They have no reason to. As others have noted, this is a really expensive place to live and rent. 77’s employs many people in the local moped community. They also give free advice and info to anyone who walks in off the street and asks. It is a part of the moped community here. We are lucky that we have two amazing moped shops in SF: Treats and 77’s. moreover, the global moped community would suffer if both of these establishments did not exist.

These kinds of threads are just more proof that the interwebs are completely retarded.

so wait, is this a joke or not? because on the one hand, 77 works very hard to produce custom bikes that are worth every penny, but on the other hand, they’re really not trying to sell it at that price. but they wouldn’t complain if they did (after all, there’s a sucker born every minute). not to mention all the newbie ignorance going on around here in spite of the fact that 77 is a pillar in the moped community and should be immune to such attacks.

and what I said above goes double for Treats … you don’t have to “defend” yourselves.

I dunno. I know yall have businesses to run (and this is your community/market), but when people talk shit about me and it’s RETARDED, I tend to think ignoring it is the best option. I mean, maybe I am wrong to think this, but these comments on this thread are beneath both Treats and 77’s. maybe I’m being idealistic …

Silence is an action, too.

Plus, stupid people always hang themselves if you give them enough rope. Let them twist. It’s not like people won’t notice.

i liked mopeds. like any other market if someone is willing to buy it, there is a price. sellers sell and buyers buy. and buyers complain about prices. whatever the prices is on whatever moped, whoever is selling it isnt doing anyone a wrong. if someone buys it, its just worth that much.

jacking up the cost of mopeding… lol seriously.

You don’t have to buy parts from anyone, no one is “jacking up the cost of mopeding” buy your parts used or from yard sales like back in the day, there are still plenty of cheap bikes and parts out there, ride stock fro crying out loud.

Now that there is an option for awesome rad rare and extinct moped parts you guys complain about the price of them, give me a break. You didn’t even know about the parts 2 years ago.

Maybe selling all this great stuff super cheap is a bad idea, IMO all moped parts should cost more. if the market was better there would be more parts being made at higher quality, but since everyone demands bottom line pricing on this stuff the only new parts you will ever see are Chinese or Indian made, or old warehouse stock that once its sold and wrecked will never be around again.

If 77 sold that magnum for $800 bucks some jack off would buy it throw a kit on it and an ugly ass pipe, blow up the za50, install an e50, take off the side panels and lose them. paint the fairing flat black then lock it up real shitty in a sketchy hood and get it stolen, or have it impounded cuz they never registered it or got insurance or an M1. Yeha that would be a way better use for it.

You bet that if someone buys that bike for $7500 that will not fucking happen and it will be very well taken care of, as it has already been in the hands of Dan and Pat.

I love mopeds and I hate seeing our culture, bikes, parts, and skills devalued. When someone comes walking down the street and asks you how much you want for your moped are you really going to say $300, no cuz ur bikes r not for sale. Maybe thats what its worth to most ppl but to you its worth $7500 maybe more maybe it worth a million maybe its priceless.

bottom line you shouldn’t concern yourself with a lame ass $7500 LTD anyways, you obviously don’t care about it as much as the owners do.

It costs a lot of freaking money and a sick amount of time to create a bike and make it look half as nice as the ‘77 bikes. I basically got a Magnum for free… and then dropped close to what they are selling their bikes for – just in parts. In my opinion, many people have no problem dropping $3000 on a scooter that makes them look like they are pinching a fat loaf while they poot down the road – I would GLADLY pay $2000+ for a custom vintage ped that these dudes have gone through, part by part. Just not now, I’m too poor. My vent is done.

I have a magnum. A while ago I started counting the money I invested in it over time, for fun more than anything else. Here’s what it comes down to, in the over 2 years that I’ve owned it:

900.00 moped (with kit, cafe bars and reupholstered seat)
100.00 EBR forks (old forks were shitty)
50.00 sleek tires
225.00 dellorto 21 racing carb + techno estoril pipe
20.00 air filter
50.00 polini 4petal reed cage
47.00 magnum stock pipe shipped to motomatic for custom intake
40.00 motomatic custom intake
35.00 electronic speedometer
30.00 new brake cables and cable housings
30.00 new drive train chain
20.00 tailight
17.00 registration
40.00 new gears
50.00 5 star front wheel (bent the spoke wheel in a crash)
6.00 new tube front wheel
60.00 engine porting and rebuild – by paz
10.00 new points
26.00 new 3 shoe clutch
230.00 engine rebuild, new seals and bearings, new condensor – by lee
55.00 new techno boss pipe (didn’t like the estoril)
16.00 new chain

WHEN YOU BUY A CUSTOM MOPED FROM 1977 YOU GET ALL THESE PARTS, NEWLY POWDERCOATED FRAME + ALL THE LABOUR OF SOME OF THE MOST SKILLED MECHANICS IN THE COUNTRY FOR LESS MONEY THAN THE LIST ABOVE!!

SO SHUT UP, LITTLE BITCHES!

hahaha, I was wondering why a seemingly dumb thread got so many replies.

man oh man, come on Elliot, you 1977/treats dudes oughta know you don’t have to defend yourself here, For every one douchebag that shoots their mouth off without having any clue of the real deal, there are many many many more who are indebted! Did those two haters even post again on this thread anyway? No I don’t think so.

I swear, instead of buying $600 worth of performance parts for my peugeot, I really really thought about replacing the stock top end, selling it and buying a custom restoration from 1977, it’s such an incredible deal, by the time you factor in your own intermediate skills+time+parts+headaches. Man oh man, the choice is EASY.

Moped parts ARE cheap!! Holy shit when I got into mopeds a year and a half ago and SHA carb was well over $100, Ninja G3 was well over $200. Stuff took WAY longer to get, gimme a break. I’ve seen it change a TON just in that short amount of time.

god what a ridiculous thread. Bag lady has an inferiority complex.

this isn’t a dumb thread. lots of interesting/important things about moped culture/economics have come up.
a-ko isn’t someone “without any clue of the real deal,” so i don’t know where you get that from.
i tried to sell my magnum for $2100 many months ago and took a whole lotta shit about it. had 300 miles and souped up to the max with all the top performance goodies. no limited, but like new and cost many hundreds over the asking price. i agree that “market regulation” by trashing people’s/stores prices is very annoying and inappropriate. if you don’t like the price, just scoff and move on. if a person/store has a bad enough reputation, they’ll simply lose business.

Re: Is '77 really selling that Magnum Ltd for $780

I totally understand why people don’t fully understand. Its hard to relate to this when you’ve never seen the bikes in person. Most of us build bikes and say “fuck it, good enough”, but when you are building a bike with the sole purpose of selling it, the quality level must be much higher. You don’t want to sell something thats going to break, because if it does break, you have to fix it again.

Some of us like building bikes, others like riding them. Everyone has their own preferences, and often, when my shit breaks, I sometimes wish I didn’t have to deal with it. Then again, I love building and fixing bikes.

If you don’t like prices, don’t pay them up front. If you really want a nice bike, you are going to pay just about the same price no matter where you live. Sure you might not pay the labor some do, but your time is worth something too. I don’t even like to think about what I put into bikes and where I get with them. Quality is difficult to achieve, and you have to pay for it somehow.

The Bay Area moped community would really be lacking with out 1977.

My only complaint…get some more peds. You guys could be restoring and selling a lot more peds i think. They always seem to sell pretty fast. Gotta keep em coming.

And would be cool if you got some new peds other than the metros.

The top of the line maxi was about $1000 in 1986, brand brand brand new. That’s $1800 in 2008. 1977 sells maxis that are more or less “new” for around $1100 give or take. That’s cheaper than they were in the 1980s.

This thread is plagued with a couple of dumb mutherfuckers. Just because your broke ass can’t afford top of the line shit, doesn’t mean someone is wrong for selling their own custom top of the line item (for whatever the fuck price they want to charge). So what.. you settle for less.. you make it clear. Get a grasp on the value of time. Just because you are a minimum wage servant with a fucking 24 hour frown doesn’t give you the right to challenge the #1 driving forces behind mopeds. Without these retailers, professionals and absolute dedicated builders, (‘77, Treats, Myrons and several others) your existence would be even less than it even should be today.

“Anything is worth whatever someone is willing to pay” remember this quote as it’s the basis for bartering and progression since.. Adam.

this is my retraction. i hope you will understand.

okay… so i know i pissed a lot of people of with the comment i left. i really had no right to compare 1977 to wal-mart. i know its nowhere near true; it just felt wrong seeing it up for sale like that, even if it was meant as a joke or even half joke. however, to me it seemed like a serious sale. i thought we were all here to help each other out, not clean out others piggy banks; and please do not take that in the wrong way… i do understand the idea behind running a business. i am attempting to start up a business of my own and it is not easy. not at all. and when i think about it, i would have been heart broken if someone had made such a nasty comment. and, i mean, it is their bike and it can be sold at any price they want. and if they do sell it, kudos to them. there arent many places to buy cool mopeds and related moped items, and big sales are what helps keep companies like treats and 77 in business.
so again, i apologize for posting before thinking. it is a very, very bad habit of mine. i have or am currently ruining a lot of things that matter, and i cant not for the life of me figure out why. and please do not read this thinking i am trying to excuse my actions, but i have been extremely stressed out to an uncontrollable degree lately and just lost it. my log on and comment replying and i were really in the wrong place at the wrong time. if there was anyway i could go back in time and keep myself from writing that post, i would. i was more than wrong, i know this was a crazy low blow insult, but i hope you accept my heartfelt and sincere apologies.

thanks. ride safe.
