what ride
where pizza luce – uptown location, 3200 lyndale ave. s.
when 6:00 meet up, 6:30 ride out
i’ve picked up 3 mopeds in the past week, two puchs and one vespa ciao. sold one so far, so jim will be this week’s special guest. i keep finding more and more, more will be available for sale coming up. i put one on craigslist for 600 just to see if some dork will inquire.
anyone with vespa knowledge please contact me via e-mail (check my user info). i have no spark. captain kim! help me out!
no idea where we’re going to ride, it will be discussed at 6. sorry i was late last week, flat rear tire.
where’s that video at of us riding in the loop? haha, i want to see that thing.
rules for ride:
*1.* ride in several lanes whenever necessary
*2.* fucking around will get us noticed… but maize loves the attention!
*3.* bring your 0 to 20 mph moped to the ride, pedal if need be, we wont be waiting for you unfortunately

props to jeni rae for posting originally for meet-ups. she said that someone should step up and start organizing rides since her moped hasn’t been working and so on… so i’m doing my best! i have yet to see her at any ride unfortunately.
maize – i agree on luce being kind of suck for a meet up place… but! it was discussed last thursday about this thursday’s meet-up spot. unfortunately, planning ahead is apparently being fucking stupid in other people’s eyes, so i really couldn’t get any suggestions. we’ll talk this thursday for ideas on a good meet-up spot.
NOTE TO EVERYONE
i’ve been recently talking to a small business here in the twin cities on having a midwest rally. it would take a fuck load of planning, but, it could be done. the person has TONS of space for a meet up space. since we had twenty some people at the last thursday ride… imagine what it would be like if we spread the word and planned for a huge midwest ride next month or two. more details to come… i would need everyone’s help to plan this shit out. keeping it on the down-low for the time being.

also a suggestion before we head out on thursdays ride, phone number exchange and a determined DESTINATION. that way if we do get split up, we dont necessarily need to worry so much, and know that everyone will end up in the same spot. this would require an explanation of the route beforehand, so a plan would be best

Rule mockery is always CALLED FOR! Doesn’t mean smart, safe riding shouldn’t be followed however.
Evereybody make sure you are titled, plated and insured or Maize won’t be able to have any fun!

sorry if my rules came off like i’m sarcastic. i don’t like my girlfriend being yelled at by you saying to be in one lane when i see no point in it at all.
as far as my rules…
like kim said, no matter how many people you have we’re bound to get split up. having twenty some people in a giant string in one lane seems to me like people are more likely to get split up.
as far as the cops, being worried about what the police think about a group of mopeds is beyond my concern.
having tabs that expired ten plus years ago or having a moped that isn’t titled my name isn’t my, or any other rider’s problem.
everything with me (and most riders from what i know of) is legit, so what’s there to worry about with the cops?
it’s frustrating when i try and organize something for the following week when everyone is together (trying to figure out if we should bbq or ride) and all i hear is (after being ignored) “dude, why are you planning this so far ahead? why does it matter?” and so on.

We will definately have a BBQ/softball/kickball/ mini-rally some weekend in Aug-Sept.
There have been offers of fix-its – gang should take one up for this weekend or next. I, however will be out of town on both.

As for this week – How about starting at Bob’s Java hut over tio lake of the Isles, up Prkway to Cedar Lake to Cedar lake Rd. Stop at Jeni-Rae’s and wake her and Derek up, then through downtown to St. Anthony to University to West River Rd and up Park Ave or round the lakes to start.
Don’t care, just one of many possibilities. But let’s have a list of routes and points of interest so depending on how many show any given week (plus newbies) we can adjust the route accordingly.
Yeah Wade – “The Red Bull Run” would be great! speaking of whom, got your lite working yet?
Decker – I already have a 35 rear on my Jawa, but thanks for thinking of me. What it needs is tires ( and a carb and a pipe and a kick in the ass!)

I dont specifically know what grease is recomended to be put on a point cam or if any is needed but my common sence says make it slippery so im thinking just oil. My ped has a rusty cam thats tearing up my points so that is the only reason the issue has come up. Yes the fiero wheelies, I build crazy stuff like also my six wheeled, twin engine, vw pickup but I may build a moped just to expand my range of intrest.

I use a twelve pointed socket of just the right size (standard or metric) that I pound (force-fit) over the head of the screw. Works great but you may have to buy a new socket when you cant get it back off.

I love Audi’s Maize. But my P.O.S. 5000 was the worst car I ever owned!
I loved driving it , when it worked, which was almost never!
Matt – yeah you’re supposed to grease the cam with something, just not sure what grease would be best.
I would think something heat-pruf and thick, but not sticky?

What case are you trying to crack Adam?
I don’t think heating the bolts will help, you want to expand the metal they screw into.
If it is a small engine case, put the whole thing in the oven and heat it to 350-400, then pound on a socket like Big Block said. That’s how they reccomend you split Vespa cases to get the crank out of the bearing.
A twin-engine VW truck? As in old van/truck or small 70’s era truck? Sounds wild!
Eric, you gonna make your poor Dad sit at Bob’s again? Well, that’s what we Dad’s do! (3 nites a week at Baseball for me)
I still say we drive by Jeni-Rae’s! (Start baking cookies Jeni-Rae!)
From Bob’s we go over to Lake of the Isles, up around to Cedar lake Pkwy, to Cedar lake Rd.(jeni’s) to Glenwood, to 12th St. to Hennepin and through downtown to St. Anthony for refreshments. Then take Ben’s crazy route by the river, through the U of M to 4th street, turn right to 15th, turn left – through campus and down East River Rd to the Nun’s graveyard, then some kind of loop through Highland Park, back over the Lake St. bridge to West River Rd to the Third Ave. bridge to St. Anthony to finish!
Whew! Allright let’s ride! Everybody in?
That way Eric’s Dad, if he comes, can go over and meet us there and stay til we get back!

e50 case, i got all the bolts out except one stubborn one. im going to get a screw extractor today and just get it out and replace it.
i dont think heating the whole case would help, but maybe just the bolt. ill try that in the future before the bolt is super stripped.
not sure if im gonna make the ride this week, but i should be there next week!

i thought that i got something from treats in the mail earlier today, but it was my new headlight faring for my magnum since the other one just cracked along with my headlight and grill.
gotta wait for that shit to come back into stock. i was expecting a cdi from treats.
i think when i paint my headlight faring, i’m going to go with a whacky color scheme for my magnum. everyone is in for a surprise (even though i know one really gives a shit) when i get my headlight painted… i got a few random accessories for my magnum that are going to be painted as well.
from now on when i make a new thread for thursday’s rides, i’m going to just put a link to mplsmopers.com and then put all the info on the front page. that way i can edit where we’re going to meet up and shit and we’re not stuck with a meet-up spot since moped army forums suck since you can’t edit your original post. i like bob’s, it just sucks they don’t serve beer there. from what i understood as well, they don’t really have appetizers and such like luce… which is another downside too. biker place and coffee is a plus.
so yeah, that website idea will work out ten times better doing it that way.

Me and greg go way back, just grabbed a green maxi from him on sunday.
Cant wait for my first critical mass moper ride. Watoon and i are going to ride out from ep.
Planning a complete engine rebuild in the near future, any suggestions?
Used to own a blue honda Nc50 with a metra kit and exaust.

Sorry dude I will not make it tonight. Some friends of mine want to cath staind and chevelle at the Taste and then I have a another friends birthday party to attend. I should be out next week so I will bring it then. Also, I think I actually am running way to rich and am going to down jet instead of going up.

Yes I drive a fiero, they are stereotyped as bad as a moped. it has a 500 ci big block or 8.3 liter for those more familiar with liters.
The 81 vw pickup also has the same type 500 ci engine in the box driving the back wheels, and a small turbo deisel engine in the front driving the front wheels. it has six wheels total.
I’m interested in some outrageous moped mod concepts that I may decide to build.

I am very aware that this is not a critical mass however it is compairable to one in that many mopeds will meet in one place for a collective ride.

Truth time: I rode with the same herd for three years. Feels kinda weird to ride with a new group…I really miss them when we ride. I know that is sappy. I am really glad that you guys are finding a moped family, but mine is real hard to replace. Bufalove. I will ride sometimes, and it feels good to be missed. I am really happy that Minneapolis is experiencing the birth of a moped community.
If you stop by my house, I will come out. I am a little scared to ride across a city that I don’t know all by myself. Bring a swimsuit, I can lead a ride to a water park.

And that’s where the comparisons end, we have no social agenda.
Our only agenda is getting to the next stop to have a beer/food with no brake downs and having fun.
