Actually, a helmet can have either a DOT or Snell sticker, without being tested by either. There are a lot of fake DOT/Snell helmets out there. But that aside, the DOT test much better simulates real world conditions than the Snell test does. I own a total of 6 helmets, and 3 of them are Snell rated, and I admit I paid extra for that rating, thinking they would provide more protection, when exactly the opposite is true. So no more Snell helmets for me unless Snell changes their test procedures. Peace, Jerry.
