”_Jim had a solid sounding point in here somewhere:
How much are you willing to spend to safe guard a moped that may be worth several hundred dollars?
Well, not much. But, how much would you be willing to pay to locate the person who stole your moped after all of your other security precautions failed?
I dont want to say that information is priceless, but I think its probably worth a good bit more than even a particularly-favored, used moped._”
EXACTLY!
I currently ride a bike that i rescued from a rusty grave, so in total the bike cost me like $40 in new parts. If i came out of the coffee shop and found it was gone, i’d shrug and go buy a new one. Even so, if it went missing and then I saw some kid riding it the next day, I’d kick the shit out of that kid, no questions asked.
I would say if i could put a price on being able to go after some punk kid like I’m Javier Bardem, the price would be roughly one-third the total value of my bike.
So GPS is out of the question unless you’re riding some museum peice around town.
I like the sticker idea, but sometimes that kind of bullshitting backfires on you. When the coffee shop I worked at got robbed, the theives went around cutting ever y wire and cord they could find hoping they were cutting off the non-existent security system. The dumbasses even cut power cords going from appliances to outlets (which made it a lot harder for them to open the cash register).
