I would like to own one as a souvenir, but would not try to ride it, I don’t think it would support my weight. It was one of these that first got me interested in mopeds, but I didn’t buy it, it looked to flimsy. Then I discovered real mopeds. Now I wish I had bought that thing anyway, I think the price was around $50. There is nothing really wrong with the roller drive concept, except in the rain, AMF just basically made junk, or at least low quality stuff. It was made in the U.S., I’ll save the JUNK word for Chinese rubbish. I do own a Solex, it is roller drive, and also seems a bit flimsy, but works great so far, and I have put about 3000 miles on it since restoring it several years ago, and it still has the same new tires I put on it then. The front tire doesn’t seem to be any more worn than the back one. AS for the AMF rear drive, from a practical standpoint, they are pretty worthless, but they ARE a part of ‘70s moped history, and are American made by the same company that made Harley’s back then, which to me makes one worth owning if you can get it cheap enough.
