well, chances are moped are NOT allowed on the paths at your school. think about it… why would they be allowed? They are meant to be driven on the road, they are registered vehicles. Its not a goped. would you ask to take a car down those paths?
but i know what your saying. my college has plenty of paved paths as well, but why bother? If you have a moped, you can get to your classes on the road faster than you can on the paths. if you really want to, or know some super special shortcut or something and you have to go on a path with it… well then just do it quick with the engine on, and be prepared to piss a lot of people off and/or deal with the police if you have to. I do it every now and then. Or, like you say, you can kill the engine and just pedal it. In that case, it shouldnt be an issue to the law… when the engine it is off it is just a bicycle (that happens to have an engine on it). Just be prepared to look like a fool haha.
like most people are saying, though, mopeds are not usually pleasant to pedal. some are better than others. My moby is decent… if i break down id rather pedal it than walk. my cimatti is horrendous.. if i break down its getting pushed, pedaling is essentially impossible. i dunno what tomos is like, but im sure its not great.
