They don’t make the pedals any longer… they just add some length on the opposite side of the crank.

If you had your pedals centered (one foot forward, one foot back), then you’d have two level spots to put your feet.

Most turns can be made in this position, or with a slight nudge one way or another… It could be nice for cruising, or when you want to really tuck in without jabbing yourself with a knee.
