Re: O/T What is this suzuki?

$1000.00 for it???? That is not bad but here are a few things to think about. Even though the bike has good compression that does not mean that the very rare and hard to get Crank Seals are good. After sitting for 20 years they might be good but will not last long, new ones will need to be bought. There are options though to getting 48 year old NOS Seals see picture. An aluminum retainer can be made to accommodate new style seals. The cost of this mod is about the same as finding NOS Seals the benefit is that you will never have to pay out big money again for hard to find seals. As a Race Bike the Crankshaft will need to be reconditioned. Racing Cranks will last about 1 year, the weakest link being the Rods. At sustained racing RPMs the rods will start to give, bend and fail taking the entire engine with it so the rebuilds are done often. There is a NOS Crank on eBay. As for the "Racing Jugs", they came with Racing Heads as a set. The Racing Heads have the Spark Plug centrally located pointing straight down. The ones in the picture are pointing aft… these are stock Heads possibly milled for higher compression. The Cylinders could be Racing Units, I can not tell from the picture. If they are then the Cylinders alone are worth money. If you do decide to get this bike and make repairs to it DO NOT GET the Standard Suzuki Pistons, get 1985 Honda CR 125 Pistons. They are a direct fit in the Suzuki and are a lot better. Just bore to fit. The Mikuni conversion is good to have as is the Tuned Pipes. The down side is that the set-up is for racing and that will mean a very narrow power band. With my bike the Pipes are very large to make it more street friendly. Even with this set-up the power does not hit till 6500 RPM. Before that it is like riding a moped… hell I bet your moped will be faster! LOL! But when the power hits you have to be ready, leaning over the tank with all your weight forward or it will wheelie and flip. It is hard to handle but a lot of fun! I am sure that the Gear Dogs have been done but with it being a racing bike the Shifter Dogs will be burned up. These are not available any more either and cost a lot when you can find them. The Tank and Seat are Suzuki Racing Kit items and come up on eBay every now and then and fetch a good price. Forks are not original and that is good because they suck! Another side note here is that during the T-20 run Suzuki converted from their fittings to ISO fittings. That means that you will have a bugger of a time finding the 5mm fittings. I had to make the ones I needed which sucked big time!

Bottom line here is that the price is not bad but to get it running and back on the street will take about another $1000.00 easy! Maybe not right away but it will! I am not trying to turn you off from it, just making you aware. It took me 3+ years to do mine and more money than I will admit. When I started the parts were there and the prices were fair. Now the bike has become a collector and the price of parts has soared and they are getting harder to find good ones!

I will not bore you with any more. I am sure that I have! If you have any more questions you can email me directly. I leave in 5 days and will be gone for 2 months. If you write I will write back ASAP when I get home or if you do before I leave I will write right back with what ever info you need.

Good Luck
