Performance Pipe Basics

It’s impossible to say what one pipe or another is going to do on any given bike but as a general rule the lenghth of the head pipe is what determines when the powerband kicks in. Basically you have to determine how long it takes the wave front to travel from the exhaust port into the chamber and bounce back again. A short head pipe will give you better low end a longer one will work better on top.
The size and shape of the chamber determine the shape of the powerband. A long narrow diameter chamber will have a wide but less powerful powerband than a short fat chamber.
