lame dude, I also had my first wreck on friday.
I spent all day getting my maxi together and was trying to re-tune my soft-seized polini, and I overlooked one thing in rebuilding the bike. On the older maxi’s (mine is a 75) there isn’t the same nub built into the swingarm to hold the brake hub in place, so I used a bolt instead, and didn’t tighten it nearly enough.
I was cruising up a mountain road by a friends house, then turned around at the top. I gunned it, then grabbed the rear brake for a downward sweeping left. I pull and then nothing, the brake fails, so I lean into the turn and grab the front a bit, but I’m going about 25 and towards the side of the road. My front tire hits gravel, and slides into a ditch and me onto the road. I was only doing 25 or so, so the only damage was some roadrash to my arm and leg, and a few scrapes on my motomatic pipe.
The brake hub slipped off my bolt, so I lost that brake. Had I made the turn I would have gained even more speed and been royally fucked going into the next turn.
I now have some hatred towards maxis. Yea magnums are heavy, but are so much more stable.
