title in nj

i have a bill of sale (reciept) for my moped but no title the dmv is therefore not allowing me to legally ride my 78 puch magnum i am the original owner even though getting titles back then was not necessary what do i have to do besides calling austria to get a title in a painless way or a grandfather law i can throw at the state of new jersey any help is appreciated
