Seems like if it were an air problem it would still have trouble idling once warm. Any air in the fuel system is going to cause problems, it doesn’t matter if the motor is warm or cold. A hot motor isn’t going to get rid of a mysterious air leak in the fuel system. I’d imagine the IP could prime the injectors under hard throttle, but still seems like eventually you would encounter the poor idle after some time idling.
How are your fuel filters? I remember hearing you are running bio, so make sure those are all clear. I dunno if the fords have a tank filter, but check that as well. I know old tanks+bio can make filters clog quick.
I still agree, it sounds a lot like a bad glow plug or two. Even when new, there is a chance they could be bad. I’ve seen it on my Mercedes. Did you verify each glow plug was functioning properly before installing?
Don’t ever use starter fluid. Its highly explosive and can fuck your engine. Yea one time might be ok, but for older diesels with a lot of miles, why risk it.
