I kind of agree with both sides of this. I mean, it’s not very nice if the whole intention if this is to piss off your local cops and be a smart ass. I know most of you hate the cops, but they’re people too, and it’s not a good use of your time or theirs if the whole point is just to be stupid and waste people’s time.
If you genuinely want to know the answers to your questions, fine. I think it’s a great idea to ask. If you know your laws better you can defend yourself, and if they know the laws, they won’t bother you or other people on mopeds. Just don’t go in there and be a jerk about it.
Also, a lot of this depends on the cops in your city. It seems like the vast majority of you have had bad experiences with your local cops. I never have, but maybe that’s because the cops in my city are used to/don’t care about “motorized bicycles” because of all the kids on scooters. I think the other night I saw someone on a moped get pulled over across the street from where I work, but I couldn’t be sure because it was dark. Either way, I know I saw the cop car sitting there with just the moped (if it was a moped) and the people left and came back to ride it away. I have no idea what the situation was, but it seemed to me like the cop was either being helpful or cutting someone some slack. I could be totally wrong, but it’s still important to remember that not all cops are bad. If a cop is rude or nasty or impatient, it’s probably because they’ve had to put up with a bunch of whiny-ass bitching and time-wasting from people who break the law (or people who ask too many questions just to piss them off).
