OT: Anyone know anything about Ford diesels?

Like an ‘86 F250 for example?
Mine is giving me fits. Have to crank the SHIT out of it to start it. I suspect air leak, but couldn’t begin to tell you where. There’s no evidence of leaking fuel anywhere, and I’ve heard all it takes is a tiny air hole.
Once it starts, and the pump primes the injectors, it’s all gravy. Drives like a champ, strong, no smoke at all, even on a hard acceleration.
I’ve tried posting in other Ford forums but no one wants to deal with me. So it’s here as well. I’m all ears for those other dieselers out there.
