please dont do this in any town i ride in or will ever ride in. last thing i want is cops thinking about mopeds at all. if you ask cops they will always tell you the strictest version of the law. ask one if you can park on a sidewalk and see what happens. they say no. but they dont hand out tickets for that.

anyways, you dont think cops actually know the laws do you? you asking them is just helping them bone up on the ways to do their job. their job is to find and fix problems. now they will be acutely aware of you and that you might be a problem. also the judge is the final word on such things. telling them that cop X told you it was ok, wont work.

at best it will be pointless. at worst you will now be on their list of things to do something about.
