Got another one on the road last night.
It’s a 1981 Malguti Commuter with a Franco Morini M1 reedvalve engine. We bought it about a year ago, one time we took it on a long ride throught the vinyards of Pallisade, CO and on coming down a huge hill the clutch drum bushing (oil-lite bearing) overheated and siezed to the crankshaft. This allowed the bike to run but cluch wouldn’t let go of the crankshaft so as soon as you stopped the bike it would jerk to a stop and kill the engine. This also stopped the use of the pedal as it made the pedal permantly connected to the crankshaft and if you pedaled you also were turning over the engine.
After figuring out the problem it only took a month or so to find the part, BJ and handybikes had just what I needed. Then after getting the part I find out it needs to be machined to fit on to the crankshaft. So after a few more months of searching I found a machinist about 30 miles away. Two days with him and it was done. So last night I sat down and put it all back together and gave it a test. She fired up second kick on 8 month old gas and idled perfect. She runs a solid 30 and has mad accelaration. I just ordered a 14/14 to replace the 14/12, 35 isn’t far away. And if you were wondering, yes that is a gimbled bottle holder on the handle bars.
I’m happy to say I’ve now got over 50% of my bikes done and in great running condition; this one is #7 of 12.
