I like bowling too, but I’m living proof that having your own ball does not mean you’re any good at it. I’d pee my pants if I got two 170’s in a series. I think the highest my average ever got was like… 120. Maybe 130.
I like cooking because I can make food I like the way I like it. Also, if I f—- it up, at least I have nobody to blame but myself.
I like sewing and arts and crafts. Sewing in particular reminds me a bit of mopeds. It’s fun to be able to say, “I made that/I made that work,” and they also share some of the same frustrations when things don’t work or don’t fit like they’re supposed to.
I like reading, but I like re-reading even better. I have a serious re-reading problem. When I find a book I like, I read it like… 5 times… each year. This was a comparison I came up with once:
If a person is incapable of eating just one potato chip, likewise I am incapable of reading a good book just once. I eat one chip/read one chapter, become addicted, and finish the bag/book in record time. There is mutual munching. I devour the book, and the book consumes me. My search of blank pages for more at the end of the book is akin to licking the salt out of the bag; I try to find more when there is clearly nothing left to be had. When all is said and done, a horrible feeling exists in either situation, either because one horribly bloated person consumed an entire bag of potato chips, or because I consumed the entirety of an excellent book in one sitting. However, while the potato chip bag will remain empty, a book can be enjoyed all over again. When I eventually drag myself out of my end-of-book stupor, I realize this. I can read the book again. It’s not over after all. Happiness returns as I flip to page one, leaving the classics for some other day.
Well, you asked. :)
