We lived way outside the city. In the sticks. Anywhere you wanted to go you had to bum a lift off your parents, hitchike, or worse…pedal.

So when we all turned 16 in 1985, we rode mopeds. I had worked all summer before to save for one, and 2 weeks before i turned 16 I slapped 759 dollar ( that i made working 3.10 cents and hour pumping gas ) on a Brand New, Sparkling Green Garelli VIP 2 speed, which continued to smoke everybodys puch’s , murray’s and the boatloads of garelli basics that everyone else had.

We just HAD mopeds, it was a right of passage. Gave em up for 20 years, but whats not to love about a moped or 12?

Kinda considered buying an old metal vespa a few years ago, but decided agianst it. Thought…well hell, there’s gotta still be mopeds around somewhere.

There are.
