Your store is a victim of FRAUD.
The customer was a CON MAN out to mislead you and obtain goods from your store under false pretenses. A bank does not give approval numbers to a cardholder on the phone, they only do this for stores which call into their bank, not the cardholder’s bank. He was TELLING A LIE.
He may even be part of a SYNDICATE that does this with stolen cards or is involved in fencing the stolen goods.
How much clearer does it need to be for the police? A crime has been committed.
