You put the oil in first, then as the gas goes in, it pretty much mixes things up.
However, it’s hard to know in advance exactly how much gas is going to go into the tank. How far did you ride on reserve, how much is left in the tank, etc. That’s why it’s better to premix fuel in a container and fill the tank with that. But of course there are those times when you need to fuel up away from home.
What I do is carry a small bottle of oil, enough for exactly one gallon of gas. I know that when I hit reserve, my tank will take more than a gallon, but I put in exactly one gallon. That way, the mix is right, and I can top it off when I get home. If you have a smaller tank, carry oil for a half gallon, then put that much in. You get the idea.
