Most cars belch out a huge amount of pollutants when you first start them in the morning. So do most of my motorcycles. Pollution is pretty relative. It’s easy to say that you don’t care that catalytic converters don’t affect you since they are made in some other country. That doesn’t mean your green tho’. I am not running green and am not motivated in that direction. Simply put—going green doesn’t interest me. But realize that if you use something that is green here, it is probably inducing upon people elsewhere a fair amount of smog and general yecch.
Also realize one of the great measures of worth of any vehicle is how far it will take you with how few repairs and for how many years. If you use your main ride for 200,000 miles and/or over 20 years you’re probably by definition green-compatible (I have done this).
What I care about now is:
Whether or not a Tomos moped can run a 220 pound guy like me up a hill?
Will it go 10,000 miles?
Does it look nice [i.e. will I still like it 10 years from now]?
How does it compare to an old single from the 1960s? (e.g. Aermacchi?)
Does it skirt DMV annual fees? (which are arguably too high or morally reprehensible to start with)
Does it get good gas mileage?
Peace be with you,
T
