Next I have skipped ahead, removed all of the wheels/cables, Also removed the forks, for this particular garelli, you have to unscew the two bolts on the top of the forks, as well as the twho that are about half way down. Both sections of the front forks then slide out.
The forks, Sanded what chrome was left on them (not much) primed with auto prime, then with rust proof auto paint 3 coats, allowing time to dry in between. Make sure you tape the painted parts of the bike well to make it look clean..
The Handlbars… these things were pretty much gone, permanent rust. Sanded down primed, and as well three coats of auto paint. I will be repainting the frame as well so I have not yet put a finish coat/sealant on but that is a very important step.
You can see the hottness of the black handlebars in the picture, such an improvement.
