I think under 400 is a good deal. They’re great everyday commuters, reliable, comfortable, quiet, and the 70cc engine is just big enough to hold its own on bigger roads where a moped doesn’t quite do it. They also get as good or better fuel economy than a moped. Those bikes are the most popular motor vehicle ever produced, so parts are everywhere and cheap.
As for the repaint, that’s common. Mine all have some rust, they seem to rust very easily. I don’t think the steel on Japanese bikes is as good as European bikes, or at least it wasn’t in the 70s and 80s.
That hose goes from the crankcase vent to a charcoal cannister under the leg shield that’s supposed to capture the gases that vent from the crankcase. It’s not essential.
Also, find out what year it is—the early models have points and 6v, while 82 and later models have a CDI and 12v, which is nice.
You can get a few extra MPH by changing the front sprocket to a 15-tooth, very easy and cheap.
You can order new legshields from Malaysia on Ebay, they’re not that expensive.
