steam punk was “supposed” to be a way of reconceptualizing the industrial revolution of said ‘victorian era’ england. not a fashion statement.
the noble aim of steampunks was, if i got them right, to understand machines as living things – and humans in their role as their creators, caregivers, and eventually undertakers and recyclers.
“putting wood parts on a moped”, “making it look old” without having to do the work that would have actually have to have been done in the era to achieve the functions of the form – i’m sorry, i have no respect for that, it defines the poseur, the lame, the fashion victim.
if you want to wear a wool suit and pretend you’re better than burning man go ahead my friend but having said this i will from here on look askance.
