Several companies(Tomos,Kinetic,Hero-Majestic,Avanti,Yumbo)still make brand new mopeds with pedals.It is,however,uncertain what will happen to these,as well as all the cheap 2-stroke Chinese scooters,after January 1st.As for the definition of a moped,it must have a MOtor and PEDals to be technically a moped.The word “moped” is actually an acronym for motor+pedals.Many states,as well as many members of this forum,are now considering other vehicles without pedals as mopeds.But to a purest like myself,in order to be called a moped,pedals will always be necessary.They are actually part of the name.Mopeds also have a long history,the very first motorized cycles were mopeds.Scooters didn’t come along until much later.Jerry.
