'ello

Hey- I didn't write in here so I thought maybe I would. Thanks to everyone who came out and cleaned the shop last night. It was looking about 87% better by the time I left, which was only in about an hour. Sweet. Also, I'd like to thank the family of bunnies that we saw, because they were cute. As well as I'd like to say this is my 2nd BBQ, the first where my moped actually worked, so that was amazing. I'm glad I could ride even with my bum ass leg. I'm glad I got to get to know some people from other branches better, especially peddy cash who are some grade A guys, no matter what anyone else says. Sorry I can't make it to the Bling bq, or probably any other events, but I'll be in France renting mopeds and you'll all be crying about it. & Thanks for Hells Satans taking that amazing picture of me. & I love just about everyone, they were all super cool.

<3, Kelly G

Dude! At the captains meeting, I so loved to hear and see all those mopeds riding around. Every couple minutes, just another group of bikes going to do something else. Awesome. And recognizing bikes. So fired up to look over and see another Gun riding around. I loved it. -- Jason

cleanup day

We've having a clean up day at the old 1977 Mopeds, bring all the cleaning supplies you can tonight at 7:00pm. There is plenty of damage and filth to fix up so the more hands the better. Also, if you want any of that furniture of lamps you're welcome to come take it.

[MA Mail] - Awesome...

Once again I had a great time at the BBQ! It was great to see everyone! What a great time! We got back around 8pm, a good 24hours after we left. We broke down at the MA, NY border...and dropped our drive chain. We got towed and while they fixed the car took the 'peds out for a good 2hour ride.

I would like to say thanks to everyone for making the weekend such a blast. I miss you all already!

BBQ 11

I just want to state that the best part of the weekend was to ride solo in Kalamazoo and see mopeds cruising the streets, or relaxing in a park to hear the buzz overtaking the streets around you. Last weekend, we not only owned the streets, we owned Kalamazoo. -chris salmonson

Off the chain+

this weeknd was sooo ruling it is insane. Everyone from The Ca$h crew had a rad time and kept it aggro. Big up to Hellz Satanz, it was awesome to meet y'all. Same goes for TBS. See you dudes in your city. D-cons held it down and again showed us all the model for an amazing rally.

Epic.

This weekend was super cool. My first Kzoo Bbq. We partied pretty hard and did some dancing. I made a pant load of new friends who i'm honestly going to miss. I'm officially taking a trip to Richmond as soon as I finish school. Some folks got offended by the male nudity. For all of those who went home last night, you missed the roman candle joust between Hells Satans Travis and myself. We have a real cool community here and I've never felt better about being a part of it. I love mopeds. -Eric S

TBS Post BBQ comments

The Bombs had a great time at BBQ 11… Thanks to everyone who put us up… Casey/ Amy, Jordan, and Jake all hooked our crew up with a place to crash.  I would also like to thank everyone who hooked some of us up with bikes to ride… Justin Todd, Chad Burke, Fred Barney, and whoever else came through.  As for me personally, my weekend was awesome.  I got to snuggle with Jake “The Teddy Bear” Van Order.  Jake prepared three meals for me over the course of the weekend, which turns out to be more home cooked meals than I’ve had in the past three months… I met some new people from the Peddy Cash, the Hells Satans, Khz, and Ghost Riders, and everyone was super cool.  I also got to reconnect with friends from the other branches that I never get to see.  My first BBQ was number 6 and it’s amazing how the times have changed.  We have went from sitting around at The Space drinking coffee and watching videos to getting blasted out of our minds, and taking pictures of hot naked dudes passed out piss drunk (ie Peddy Ca$h Joel)… This year was the craziest and most fun BBQ ever.  A few things that stand out for me are:  Who knew Miguel would train for the fight against Josh and bust him up?  J  Josh, put up a good fight, but Mig had some serious determination and wasn’t going to loose… The ride to the ice cream parlor was huge… Definitely the largest group of moped riders in the history of the Moped Army and maybe the US…  Peddy Cash rolled up to the party on Saturday night with a ghetto blaster bumping some sh!t off of the Thriller album and started shooting craps…  Hells Satans were lighting fireworks non stop for three days and strapped some road kill to one of their mopeds.  Peddy Cash Kurt was possessed by Mike Tyson on Saturday night and was also making bird sounds throughout the evening… TBS Alex puked all over the Tom Cruisers and soiled a perfectly clean bedroom and bathroom.  I lost my gas cap on the railroad tracks on the way to the Rocket Star yesterday, but I didn’t realize it until I hit that giant pot hole and gas sprayed all over me. Old 1977 smelled like a dirty sock by the end of the weekend.  To sum it all up in three words… Totally rad.

Sorry. I just read that. I meant Errin. Cause that's her name! An' shit. -- Jason

The Guns had a sweet time a the BBQ, thanks to everyone who helped make our weekend wonderful. Thanks to MFer's Matt and Matt and Sean for hanging out in Ann Arbor tonight.

I understand that Guns may have brought guns or something. Sorry. Airsoft pellets are reasonably easy to vacuum. I'll come clean something if need be. Sorry. We're Guns, what do you expect? But thanks Decepticons, it was great!

P.S. The Guns flag (and Patches!) were sweet! Thanks Erin and Chris.

-- Jason

sorry about all the boners

Peddy Cash had a blast. Thank you Hell's Satans for you sharing the love of loving your bodies and thank you Grandma Sage for realizing Team Mayhem will win and for dumping em. Two of us almost lost our voices, and all of us lost our dignity, so it must have ruled. I have 70+ polaroids, so probably 15 of them will actually make it on here.

channel 3

The news blurb they just ran on the 11 o'clock news was about 15 seconds long and full of factual inaccuracies. They said there are 130 members in the Decepticons when I told them that there was roughly that many at the BBQ. They also said it's our 11th year when it's actually our 11th event. We had two per year until BBQ 10, so it's our 6th year. That last one was a tricky statistic but the first was annoying.

Did anybody see the 6 o'clock segment? Was it longer?

don't fence me in

No more bbq 11.  too bad.  It was nice to see some friends from far away.  It makes me think that us Decepticons should really get out more and visit our Moped Army brethren on a non-rally basis.  Armed with mopeds, of course.  It's amazing how the rally has changed since the first one (which i was at, but i didn't have my moped with me.. and i didn't actually know Dan or Simon at the time, so no one remembers me being there... i'm rambling....) and how it's stayed the same.  And how every branch seems to be so radically different, but the same key elements hold it together.  Those differences also creat this great dicotomy to the Moped Army.  None of us fit into a cookie cutter subculture, or stereotype.  No shoving us into a box.  It's pretty awesome.

PS None of my phone posts worked.  Totally bummed about that.

Post BBQ

I'm home from the Monday events. After leaving, I got a friend of mine who had never ridden a moped asked to try mine out; he was all geeked to ride one after he stopped by the shop earlier and saw the whole group.

It was great to meet so many of you from all around. I especially want to give shout-outs to the folks from Motion Left who were kind enough to lend me their soldering iron twice, the guy who let me have some of his two-stroke oil, and everyone at the BBQ today who had some proper Motobecane tools.

I've got a handful of Polaroids I'll scan this week.

oh well

I guess this weblog isn't as useful or interesting as I hoped it would be. Apparently people are mainly interested in posting message or photos about genitalia. For those that aren't in Kalamazoo this weekend I'd like to let you know that this weblog isn't a good representation of the fun we've been having this weekend. Yesterday we went on a 100 person ride for example, which was incredible.

Update: Maybe I'm being too negative here...everybody please continue to post photos from the weekend, it's a great way to share. Also remember that you can view all the photos at Flickr, even as a slide show. This weekend has been really great, thanks to everyone who was here to make it that way.

i just heard from one of the servers at the crows nest that they waited on a table of 9 or so ma members who only left them a $4.50 tip. now i understand that we're all poor kids but try to remember that we're a force to be reckoned with as far as being served goes. try to tip as well as you can wherever you go this weekend.

thanks. caseycola

tbs in t-minus:

anticipation...

i'm sitting in the basement stacks at the public library in scenic cincinnati, oh awaiting the strike of 11 to get the eff out of here and on my way to kzoo. sleep is not an option this weekend, as i am already operating off of a cumulative 6 hours for the past 2 and one half days. i'm an avid sleeper, so that means a lot, trust it. regardless of my schedule, im certain sheer giddiness has kept my fellow bombers awake all night. this is the wrestlemania of mopeds. this is moped christmas morning.

the vans are hopefully loaded up and pointed north.

tbs is bringing unruliness. believe it.

some special surprises await all.

Hello from Sizer!

Hey Army members!

I know many of you are on your way across the country to be at this year's BBQ.

I am planning on being at some of the key events with plenty of new stuff to show everyone from the nearly-ready-to-go-to-press MOPED ARMY graphic novel! I'll have previews, posters, flyers, patches, sample pages of the entire book and the option for you to PRE-ORDER the graphic novel now so that you can get it BEFORE it hits stores nationally in September! I'm really excited to share this stuff with all of you, and am hoping this year's BBQ is the most kick ass one yet!

Drive safe and arrive in one piece,
Paul Sizer

Cruiseing...

Some of the Tom Cruisers are on the move. I am looking into flying standby, but if I don't luck out, Jeb and Ira will be representing the southwest as a duo. We prepared our shirts, and our livers, so watch out.

Preparation

The Mosquito’s have been working hard to get all the mopeds in good running order. Vans and trailers are being prepped with tune-ups and tire changes. Everyone is growing anxious as it’s drawing nearer to the wire of our departure Wednesday night.

ready

The east coast is all ready and psyched for the biggest moped army BBQ ever. Our secret plan seems to be coming along well. See you guys soon.

Kalamazoo Mo-lympics

So you've probably heard the word Mo-lympics tossed around a bit, but what the hell is that? On Saturday we're going to play some moped related games at Spring Valley Park, with each branch competing against each other to win Olympic style. For every game you can nominate one member of your branch to participate (or multiples depending on the game). We'll keep track of bronze, silver, and gold to announce a branch winner at the end.

The games are:

Obstacle Course
The fastest wins, but won't knock over the obstacles.

Solex Toss
How far can you throw a moped?

U-Locks
Sort of like a modern day horse shoe toss.

Pedal Race
How close can you go?

Carb Race
Assemble your carb before competing in a race. Ready, set, go!

Trick Riding Competition
Bust out those skills; scored by applause.

6-pack Relay
Assemble ateam of 6 (energy drink) drinkers, repeats are okay.

Start honing your skills to take home the gold. Afterwards we'll do some grilling, kickball, and hang out in the park.

-- Simon

Race Info

We've once again rethought the race and devised a plan to make it better than ever. The new setup should be safer, attract less attention from cops, and will be a nice change from past years.

The course will be entirely contained within the "student ghetto" neighborhood of Kalamazoo. Racers will start off at the Vine Street Alternative High School parking lot and proceed down Pearl Street. Each racer must get four out of five possible flyers, which will be handed out at any one of ten corner locations within the neighborhood. To win you must be the first to bring back four flyers to the starting point.

The best way to get a handle on how this will work is to consult the map of the race neighborhood.
